For the adventurous spirit, or those just wanting to make space for more peace and quiet in nature... This weekend retreat is a balance of both and includes hiking/running along beautiful mountain trails, relaxing rafting down the Tugela River and some inspiring yoga sessions.
Tugela River Lodge is a self-catering Eco Lodge, located on a private cattle and game farm on the banks of the Tugela River, near Winterton, KZN. The lodge runs on solar power and gas and is completely off the grid. Tugela River Lodge is well known for the much loved annual Oxpecker Trail Running event, and on this retreat weekend we will have exclusive use of these magnificent trails, with not another soul in sight!
On Friday afternoon we'll settle in with a yoga class to ease into the weekend, followed by dinner around the fire. Saturday morning we'll be woken with coffee/tea and farmstyle rusks and then set off on a hike/trail run through the game farm (either 8 km, 11 km or 17 km - you choose) enjoying close views of Giraffe, Zebra, Impala, Kudu, Eland, Red Hartebeest and Warthog. On return we'll be treated to a delicious breakfast and then have the rest of the morning to relax overlooking the river (or an optional yoga class for those wanting to stretch out after the hike). After lunch, we'll have cooler boxes packed and spend the afternoon rafting down the river. The rafting will end back at the lodge where we'll have sundowners on the koppie and enjoy a local history talk followed by dinner. Sunday morning will begin with a yoga class, followed by brunch and more time to relax or explore the farm before departing for home.
Caitlin Hird from Yoga Works will be your guide on this retreat and will be teaching the yoga sessions. The yoga sessions are accessible for all levels even if you are new to yoga. The yoga classes are fun and playful and this is really what this weekend is all about - take a well-deserved break, spending some time to connect with nature, with others and with ourselves.
Activities: yoga (Friday evening, Saturday morning and Sunday morning), hiking/trail running, rafting, history talk on the koppie - all activities are optional
Fitness: a reasonable level of fitness is required for the hike (although there are various distances to choose from and you can take this totally at your own pace).
Price: 3950 ZAR pp sharing (includes all meals, two nights accommodation, yoga classes, hiking, rafting, and history talk).
Book: fill in online form via ticket link, a 50% deposit secures your spot. Balance to be paid by 20th October.
Food: vegan or vegetarian options are available by request (all meals included)
COVID-19: in case of renewed travel restrictions bookings will be transferred to a new date. In case this is not possible, payments will be refunded minus a 5% handling fee. All precautions for social distancing and sanitising to be adhered to by all participants at the venue and during the activities.
Accommodation: as there is limited space, all rooms are sharing.
Transport: about 4 hrs drive from Joburg. Everyone drives to the retreat in their own cars, if you don't have your own transport we'll find you someone who can take you in their car. Please consider carpooling!
