About The Event
It’s time to shake off the winter, and replenish yourself during this Heritage Day yoga retreat. Join Steven Heyman and Lucy Draper-Clarke for a long weekend of yoga, mindfulness and outdoor adventure in the Groot Marico District, 250km from Johannesburg.
We will stay at the Tara Rokpa Centre, a retreat centre known for its pristine environment, unpolluted air and fantastic night sky. It lies in a wooded valley, bounded by perennial streams and surrounded by rolling hills. (www.tararokpacentre.co.za)
We will wake up to a gentle yoga and mindfulness session in the Octagon meditation hall, followed by healthy breakfast in the open dining area. There will then be two varied yoga sessions before tucking into a filling vegetarian lunch. Participants can either rest in the afternoon or visit the nearby waterfall in Tara’s Valley, or die Oog – the Eye – which is the 14m deep source of the Marico river, and popular with swimmers and divers. There will be one evening yin yoga practice, and on the final evening we can sit around an open fire, telling Bosman tales, traditional to the area.
Steven Heyman from Yoga Works will teach two yoga sessions each day, covering vinyasa flow as well as partner yoga, balances and inversions. Lucy Draper-Clarke from Heart-Mind will focus on Yin and Mindful yoga, alongside mindfulness and compassion training. The final 3-hour yoga session on Sunday will combine the elements from both teachers into a yoga, breath and mindfulness practice, where we can fully experience both Effort and Ease.
Date: Our first session will begin after lunch on 21st September, and end after lunch on 24th September, but you are also welcome to come a night early (20th September), or stay an extra night afterwards, for complete relaxation!
