About The Event
The last two years have been a roller coaster ride, with the ground disappearing beneath us. When there’s no ground... head for the ocean! We never really know what lies ahead, so the best we can do is cultivate an awareness of now - the moment that is right here.
During this Mindful Mozambique retreat, we’ll explore how to meet each moment of our lives with a clear intention, kindness and present moment awareness. If you've been wanting to establish or deepen your mindfulness meditation practice, then this week in beautiful Tofo is just the opportunity you need.
When we become more mindful, we notice what is around and within us. The senses gather information from the outside world, and we evaluate it through the body, heart and mind. Learning to notice physical sensations, emotions and thoughts gives us an incredible capacity to respond skillfully to all that we encounter. We shift from a negativity focus to one of appreciation and gratitude.
This weeklong retreat will offer mind training, supported by exquisite yoga practices, nourishing meals and the healing power of the sea. Lucy will facilitate a Compassionate Mindfulness programme, covering eight sessions:
1. Start Where You Are
2. Appreciating the Body as a Place to Stay Present
3. Anchoring with Mindfulness Supports
4. Working with Distraction
5. Witnessing the Busy Mind
6. Cultivating an Attitude of Kindness
8. A Mindfulness-Based Life
There will also be opportunities for one-on-one consultations to support your practice, and an Expressive Movement dance class, to celebrate our time together.
Lucy Draper-Clarke has a doctorate in mindfulness and teacher education and loves to run retreats as well as support yoga teacher training schools. She has practised yoga for 20 years and taught yoga and mindfulness in Southern Africa since 2006, while also offering embodied practices at the University of the Witwatersrand. While doing so, she has been lucky enough to study with inspiring Buddhist mindfulness, Vinyasa yoga teachers, and Expressive Movement dance therapists. Her light-hearted and compassionate approach to teaching allows participants to explore their inner worlds through a joyful, yet transformative practice.
The regular Kumba programme includes up-lifting yoga classes taught by Steven Heyman. He quit his corporate job as managing director to become a full-time yoga instructor and has since experienced a series of radical and transformational shifts: from balance sheets to life balance, from increasing turnover and profits to increasing wellbeing, from business development to self development, from rushing around in cities and airports to maximising time in nature. He likes to combine inspirational themes, skilful movements, mobility, mindfulness and anatomy and serve these with a good dose of fun and compassion. Steven and his wife Adelline are the hosts at Kumba Lodge, where they love to welcome other conscious adventurers.
